Edgewater's history is closely tied to Sloan's Lake, created in 1861 when Thomas Sloan's well overflowed and flooded 200 acres, forming the lake whose "edge water" gave the city its name. The area initially attracted fishermen and ice-cutters, then grew more rapidly after Fort Logan's establishment in 1887 and the development of Sheridan Boulevard as a key access road, which brought more residents along the lake's western shore.
In 1901 roughly 300 residents voted narrowly to incorporate as the City of Edgewater—officially recognized by the state in 1904—and early leaders focused on replacing the town's well with piped water, building wooden boardwalks, naming streets and extending telephone and electricity lines. Today, Carmody Lake Plumbing continues this tradition of bringing reliable infrastructure to Edgewater homes, maintaining and upgrading the plumbing systems that keep this historic lakeside community thriving.
